I've heard my mission president say this a few times already, but it's true. I usually don't post two weeks in a row, but I felt it was important to follow up on last week's post. Last Sunday Sister Jensen and I fasted to find 14 new investigators this week. For our entire transfer we've averaged 2/week, but the mission standard is to find 14. We fasted that we could find these people, and I know that many back home prayed for us. However, we did not reach our goal of 14 this week....we surpassed it! We found FIFTEEEN! This is absolutely a miracle. Whom the Lord calls, He qualifies. I know that what was missing the other 5 weeks was our desire. We faced many trials that were followed by many miracles. Every time we were rejected 2-3 times or people said something rudely to us, we would press forward because we knew something good was about to happen. And it always did! One day this week I had the stomach flu, and we managed to lock ourselves out of the apartment. That day turned out to be the most successful and fulfilling day of our transfer!
This weekend Latter-day Saints had General Conference. As a missionary, you get the chance to watch it not only through your own eyes, but through the perspectives of every person you are teaching, member and nonmember. This has helped me gain some incredible insights. I can't wait to read and re-read all the talks! Which were your favorites? I can hardly choose, but Elder Eyring's definitely struck a chord with me. "Give me mountains to climb!" What a viewpoint of trials! I don't think I could ever have that kind of courage to pray for trials, but that is because the Lord seems to already know when I need to be pushed and tested further.
This week we are praying for Jerry. We have set a new baptismal date with him for his birthday on Friday, April 13. He is so close to giving up smoking! He decided that this week is the ultimate test for him. If he can go without smoking for 7 days then he knows that he can do it for life. I am so honored by his commitment to finish the Book of Mormon in time for his baptism. He already knows it is true, and he attended every session of conference, including Priesthood session. I am so proud of him and grateful for his example.
My faith in my Savior grew in leaps and bounds this week as we saw the fruits of our work. I am so grateful to be in the same place with the same companion for another transfer here in Clarksville. Yes, I was quite envious to have barely missed the chance to sing in the missionary choir at conference. I recognized at least 10 faces from the MTC that I was so happy to see, and that was before I found out that Elder David Archuleta was up there! I love you all and want to hear from you. My prayers are with you. To those of you who have sacrificed that I might serve, I am thankful. I don't feel like I am sacrificing much to serve a mission, but rather I am so lucky. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is on the earth again! Share it!
Love,
Sister Nordstrom
